The Hanover Park Village Board on Thursday night approved the construction of a domed tennis facility. The $600,000 facility–to be covered by all-weather, vinyl-coated polyester–will be built on the southwest corner of Church and Walnut Streets.

The 33,000-square-foot, air-supported structure will add four tennis courts to the six already inside a similar structure nearby that also houses racquetball and basketball courts. A covered walkway will connect the new, 38-foot-tall dome to the brick community center.

“The structure will be built in a depression below the elevation of surrounding properties, thereby reducing any visual impact by being 5 feet lower than any existing structure,” said Village Manager Marc Hummel.
