Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Todd Hollandsworth, the 1996 NL Rookie of the Year, will undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week and could be sidelined for the rest of the season. The Dodgers said an MRI exam Thursday revealed Hollandsworth has a slap lesion–a tear in the cartilage around the shoulder. Hollandsworth, 25, is hitting .269 with three homers and 20 RBIs.
– The New York Yankees placed Derek Jeter on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained abdominal muscle. They filled Jeter’s roster spot with right-hander Scott Brow, acquired earlier in the day in a trade that sent right-hander Willie Banks to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Banks, 29, was 1-1 with a 10.05 ERA in 14 1/3 innings of relief for the Yankees this season.
