Motorola Inc. is in discussions with Israeli computer chip-maker Tower Semiconductor on a $1.2 billion joint venture to make chips in Israel, according to the Israeli daily newspaper Ha-aretz. Tower and Schaumburg-based Motorola recently requested information on Israeli government assistance and Tower last year declared its interest in building a semiconductor plant with a partner, the newspaper reported. A Motorola spokesman confirmed the company has had discussions with Tower but said it had nothing to announce.
