Lake County Unites for Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) has been awarded a $30,000 grant to fund its community safety project, the group announced at its recent annual meeting.

The money was given to VIP by the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority. It comes from the sale of violence prevention license plates.

VIP’s community safety project includes a fall forum on Oct. 1, publication of newsletters and violence prevention brochures, community assessments and collaboration with Lake County Fighting Back and KidPower’s everyday skill program.

The grant will also allow VIP to continue to employ a part-time coordinator.

Also at the meeting, VIP elected as the new chairman Claudia Kasten and Carrie Flannigan as co-chair. Kasten is an assistant state’s attorney in Lake County and Flannigan works as a domestic violence counselor in the prosecutor’s office.

VIP is a countywide organization of human service agencies.
