The Elk Grove Township Day Care Center will have new equipment and supplies for the next year, thanks to a $60,000 Quality Enhancement Grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services.

The day-care center received the maximum amount available for a grant from the state department. The money will be spent on such things as new desks and chairs, shelves and computer equipment, at the center at 711 Chelmsford Lane in Elk Grove Village.

Part of the money also will be set aside for tuition reimbursement if staff members take child-care classes during the year. Summer offerings usually requiring parent money, such as field trips and classes on bowling and sign language, will be offered to students free.

Executive Director Annette Shumaker said the center plans to add a new staff member for the summer session to help with classes. The center provides year-round care for children ages 3 months to 12 years old. It offers before- and after-school programs and a summer-camp program.

Parents pay tuition for their children to attend the day-care center, and fees depend on parents’ ability to pay. According to Shumaker, about 75 students receive a subsidy from IDHS to help with tuition costs.
