Despite the sweltering heat, Tim Bennett is in-line skating 447 miles across the state to raise the awareness that kids need more good role models.
“If you don’t have anyone in your life to tell you that you’re good, or think positive — you are going to think badly,” the 37-year-old South Bend man said.
His 10-day, in-line skating trip began Thursday in Evansville and he expects to finish July 4 in South Bend.
“My whole feeling is to get as many men as I possibly can to get them to do things with kids,” Bennett said. “I am hoping that every night in whatever city I’m in, I can get with the local youth groups, get in touch with as many kids and adults as I can.”
Bennett plans to skate from Evansville to Vincennes, then on to Bloomington on Saturday. He then will travel to Indianapolis and zig-zag to Ft. Wayne.
