Alltel Corp., Little Rock, Ark., which provides phone service in the Southeast and Midwest, completed its acquisition of 360 Communications Co. of Chicago for about $6.03 billion in stock and assumed debt, strengthening its hand against competitor BellSouth Corp. Alltel swapped 0.74 share for each share of 360, a wireless voice-and data-services company that was spun off from Sprint Corp. in 1996.
