The Lockport City Council on Monday night delayed action on a proposal to approve the annexation of five parcels in Homer Township.

Ron Caneva, the city attorney, said the delay was necessary because the annexation-agreement document was missing a signature from the ownership group. The annexation measure will be reconsidered July 15.

The parcels, totaling 129 acres, are near Gougar Road and 167th Street, and include two parcels belonging to the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. They also are next to the path proposed for the extension of Interstate Highway 355.

The other parcels, called Parker Fields, were included in a petition filed in 1994 when opponents of incorporation in Homer Township encouraged some landowners to file petitions with Lockport in order to stop the incorporation effort. After more than 30 petitions were filed with Lockport, incorporation backers abandoned their effort.

The Parker Fields ownership group approached Lockport early this year about going through the official annexation process, said Lockport City Planner Doug Blocker.
