Going international: For the first time, an international art exhibit is on display in the Community Gallery of Art at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. The 22 paintings by 14 artists from France, England and the United States include pieces by French painter Patrick Betaudier and American artists Steve Jones, CLC’s art curator, and Nancy Whitmore Smith, a CLC graduate. Betaudier, who for five years was a professor at Southern Illinois University, taught the other artists in the show.
“Betaudier lives in the 13th Century medieval town of Monflanquin in southwest France,” Jones said. “I think some of that comes through in his work and in the French artists’ work as well. I was one of the people who studied with him back in Carbondale and studied with him in Paris.”
A public reception for Betaudier will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the gallery. The works will be on display through Aug. 14.
