The North Barrington Village Board has voted 4-2 to approve a comprehensive plan and map that calls for a “premier” business district designation for 110 acres at U.S. Highway 12 and Old McHenry Road.

The vote came after a vote on a motion to open the area to office/research and “high-quality homes” was voted down 3-2, with one abstention.

Trustee Colin Lafferty said he didn’t want to limit the property exclusively to business or commercial use if a sanitary sewer is to be extended to the area.
