The Illinois Supreme Court has approved the electronic filing of motions and other pleadings in the Cook County Circuit Court’s Juvenile Justice and Child Protection Department.
The administrative order was issued last week in response to a request from Cook County Circuit Court Chief Judge Donald O’Connell, who proposed the change in April.
O’Connell said the pilot program will streamline record-keeping by generally eliminating paper court files.
O’Connell said the advantage of electronic filing is the availability of court records to the attorneys and service agencies that need them.
Carolyn Barry, a spokeswoman for Circuit Court Clerk Aurelia Pucinski, who had her own proposal for electronic filing, applauded the Supreme Court action.
“We think it’s great,” Barry said. “We’re fine with the way it’s worked out.”
