Glen Ellyn trustees are considering a plan that might allow the annexation of most, if not all, of the 84 homes in the unincorporated Lambert Farms neighborhood between Wheaton and Glen Ellyn near the College of DuPage.

Over the last several years, the village has been extending water lines through the neighborhood and offering homeowners a chance to hook up to Glen Ellyn’s Lake Michigan water system. About 15 homes have signed agreements, which require them to pay three-fourths of the prorated share of the cost of the line.

Now, representatives of the neighborhood are talking to the village staff about pursuing a block annexation of the entire development under a special service area.

Under the residents’ proposal, they would not have to pay for any of the nearly $500,000 cost of the water lines because they want their future revenue generation to the village to fund the lines.

But village officials have determined providing the services may be too costly.
