Complaints have fallen by half since Schaumburg adopted a noise abatement program for Schaumburg Regional Airport in October 1997, according to the Schaumburg Regional Airport Advisory Commission said Wednesday.

One airport neighbor isn’t buying it.

“We have airplanes circling our home every 3 to 5 minutes for an hour without relief,” said Pat Priestly of Roselle.

“It’s so loud our conversation, when we’re outside, must cease,” Priestly told the commission.

According to airport Administrator Mark Clements, Priestly’s home is in a direct line of one of the airport’s flight patterns.

Clements disagreed that airport noise has increased. Since Feb. 7, there have been 18 noise complaints from eight households near the airport, he said.

“The new abatement ordinance seems to have satisfied (the bulk) of the complainants,” Clements said.

Under the noise abatement plan, pilots must depart and arrive to and from the west, taking them over an industrial park.
