The Woodstock City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday night to accept Chicago-based Broadacre Management as the developer for the 10-acre Diecast property.

Broadacre was accepted over Levin Associates of Des Plaines. Both companies had presented proposals that called for a mix of commercial and residential development on the property, which is just north of the Woodstock Square.

Broadacre has proposed to build 122 units, ranging from two-bedroom row houses to 48 condominiums. Construction costs, to be privately financed, are estimated at $14.8 million. The city would underwrite $4.2 million in infrastructure improvements.

In approving Broadacre as the developer, the council accepted the recommendation of the Diecast Development Evaluation Committee.

Councilman James Young, who voted against the proposal, said the council should have had the opportunity to talk to both developers before making the decision.
