You have probably noticed by now: Things aren’t exactly what they used to be in these partsfrom our masthead to the valuable “junk” on this page to the easy-to-follow Home Work project you’ll find later in this section.
Why the changes? For the same reasons you put an addition on your home, or remodel your kitchen or shop for a new bedspread.
Sometimes, it’s simply for change. But most often it’s because the way you live changes and your needs change.
Our “Home” is changing to meet not only the needs of those smitten by the joys of gardeningtoday, we report on the color that soon will be heating up gardens; next week, an ambitious Glen Ellyn gardener whom we will follow all summerbut also to meet the needs of the space-challenged and the time-starved.
Relevance and accessibility will be among our top prioritiesright up there with beauty and comfort.
So that’s what you’ll find in the new Home&Garden each Sunday: Great ideas from Chicago-area homes. Great finds in area stores. Answers to problems inside and outside the home. Appraisals of heirlooms and flea-market finds.
And don’t worry. There’s still a lot of the old “Home” here. You will still find many of your favoritessuch as Mary Daniels and Bill Aldrich’s calendars of decorative arts and gardening events, Abby Mandel’s Weekend Cook columns, Karen Klages’ previews of the month’s shelter magazines, Pamela Sherrod’s updates on the area retail scene, and the good things Martha Stewart has to share.
