Loom loss: Fruit of the Loom Ltd., Chicago-based maker of underwear and other apparel, said it lost $2.3 million in the second quarter, with revenues hurt because it couldn’t produce enough inventory to meet strong retail demand. The loss amounted to 3 cents a share, compared with a profit of 90 cents a share, or net income of $65.3 million, a year ago. Analysts had estimated it would make a profit of 3 cents in the quarter. The company had net sales of $551.7 million in the quarter, down from $628.0 million a year ago. The inability to meet demand cut about $60 million from revenues in the quarter, it said.
