An Antioch man faces up to 60 years in prison after being convicted this week of six counts of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl at knifepoint.

Charles A. Carroll, 34, testified during his bench trial in Lake County Circuit Court this week, but Judge Barbara Gilleran Johnson said she found his rendition of events “far-fetched,” according to Assistant State’s Atty. Suzanne Fitzgerald.

Carroll said he entered the girl’s bedroom, in the house where they both lived with the girl’s mother, about 4 a.m. March 1. He testified that he cut off her clothes and left her naked on the bed, the prosecutor said.

The girl testified that he threatened to kill her and sexually assaulted her repeatedly before leaving, Fitzgerald said.

Carroll will remain in custody until his sentencing Dec. 17. He faces at least 12 years in prison.
