Mable R. Daraban, 83, of Aurora, a descendant of the Mack family, one of Kane County’s earliest settlers, died Monday, Aug. 27, at Elmwood Nursing Center in Aurora. Mrs. Daraban’s maternal grandfather was a member of the Mack family, the owners several farms along what is now Mack Road, off Illinois Highway 59. “She was one of the original Mack girls, from a family that farmed this area for generations,” said her daughter, Gloria Ulrich. “Although they once owned property all over the county, today there aren’t many of them left.” A talented homemaker, whose love of books often led to her reading as many as three in one week, Mrs. Daraban also enjoyed the time she spent with family and friends. “She read everything there was,” Ulrich said. “As she got up in years, reading was kind of an escape for her. Something she did to help forget the aches and pains of growing old.” A lifelong area resident, who was born in Warrenville, Mrs. Daraban married her late husband, Peter, in Aurora on the 4th of July in 1936. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Aurora and a member of Women of the Moose, Chapter 83 of Aurora. Mrs. Daraban was also an avid fan of all the Chicago sports teams and loved animals. Other survivors include two daughters, Darlene Yaggie and Jan Moore; a brother, Robert Schusler; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway St., Montgomery.
