A 22-year-old Villa Park man killed Sunday by a Union Pacific West Line train in Elmhurst may have committed suicide, police said.
The man’s parents told investigators that he recently had “a falling out with a good friend,” said Elmhurst Detective Cmdr. Jim Doherty. Investigators were trying to locate the friend Monday.
The man was struck about 4:25 p.m. Sunday by a train originating in Chicago about a half-mile east of Villa Avenue near the Salt Creek Forest Preserve, Doherty said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, a DuPage County medical examiner’s spokesman said.
Toxicology results are expected after an inquest, which usually takes six to eight weeks.
A Metra spokeswoman was unavailable for comment Monday.
