Mia Cucina, 56 W. Wilson St., Palatine, is holding its sixth annual Italian Carnevale, a celebration of traditional Italian festivities that take place during the lenten season, through Tuesday. The event will feature colorful banners, streamers and traditional Carnevale music. Guests will be encouraged to wear masks and beads, and strolling magicians and jesters will entertain. Specials will include crawfish etouffee, blackened tuna tacos and jambalaya. Shaw’s also will offer a Taste for Two Valentine’s Day menu Feb. 14-16. The menu will include jumbo shrimp cocktail, a 11/2-pound Maine lobster, 11/4 pounds of Alaskan king crab legs, half a dozen oysters and a chocolate dessert for two. Cajun Kitchen, 1155 W. Golf Rd., Rolling Meadows, will hold a daylong Mardi Gras celebration on Fat Tuesday. Guests will receive free beads, as well as masks for children. The zydeco band Mojo & the Bayou Gypsies will perform at 6, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for adults and include one show and up to $10 in food, excluding beer. Magnum’s will have Valentine’s Day dinner specials Feb. 14 to 17. A chateaubriand dinner for two will include charbroiled tenderloin of beef with vegetables and duchess potatoes topped with bearnaise and bordelaise sauces for $29.95 a person or $39.95 a person with a 10-ounce lobster tail. Other specials will include fresh wild Tasmanian salmon topped with tomato basil for $23.95; sirloin of beef carpaccio for $9.95; and jumbo lump crab cocktail served in a mustard sauce on avocado for $12.95. Dinner will begin with chilled terrine of carrot, crimini mushrooms, broccoli and cauliflower, and a petite mesclun salad with aged balsamic vinegar. A choice of seared Atlantic salmon on wilted spinach or Asian-scented pork tenderloin will follow. Champagne and strawberry sorbet will be served to cleanse the palate. Entree choices will include shallot, thyme and pecorino-crusted veal loin with calvados sauce; grilled tenderloin of beef with Jerusalem artichokes; or potato and tarragon encased red snapper with lobster risotto and saffron sauce. Dessert will be a choice of almond tuile napoleon with raspberries and passion fruit cream or warm chocolate ambrosia with praline ice cream.
