Three people were killed and six others injured–including three children struck by a van in a crosswalk–during weekend traffic accidents.
Johnnie Owens, 51, of the 14000 block of Vine Avenue in Harvey died early Sunday after he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a light pole late Saturday, Chicago police said.
A 7-year-old passenger was in good condition at Cook County Hospital, police said.
In another accident Saturday, a Buffalo Grove youth was killed when the the car he was driving struck a sport-utility vehicle in Palatine, police said.
The teen, identified as Matthew Strauss, 16, by the Cook County medical examiner’s office, was traveling east on Dundee Road about 10:20 p.m. when the accident occurred. A 16-year-old passenger was in good condition at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
Also killed Saturday was Nancy Gancer, 63, of the 4200 block of West Belmont Avenue, whose vehicle struck a light pole in the 3400 block of North Cicero Avenue, Chicago police said.
Leroy Williams, 28, of the 1300 block of North Burling Street, was accused of leaving the scene of an accident after a van he was driving struck four pedestrians, including three children, in a crosswalk late Saturday in the 1400 block of West Evergreen Avenue, Chicago police said.
A 4-year-old boy suffered a broken leg. Two other children, ages 10 and 1, and a 40-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.
