Velvin C. Nipson, 82, retired teacher and former director of the Scott School Child Parent Center, died Monday, May 13, 2002. Mrs. Nipson will be remembered for her years of dedication to education, the democratic process and the arts community. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herbert Nipson, retired executive editor of Ebony Magazine; her sister Odessa C. Wilson; two children, Herbert E. and Maria F. Nipson; and two grandchildren. Memorial gatherings for her many friends and extended family will be held in Chicago, IL in June and in Philadelphia, PA in September. In accordance with her wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Side Community Art Center, 3831 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago.
