Edward Joseph Pevitts, 79, of Wheaton, formerly of Naperville, a Western Electric employee for more than four decades, died Tuesday, May 21, in Edward Hospital in Naperville of heart failure. Born in Chicago, Mr. Pevitts graduated from Farragut High School and served with the Navy during World War II. He was employed with Western Electric in Cicero for 42 years as a cable engineer, retiring in 1983. The company “was like his second family, with many of his friends from the old neighborhood working alongside him,” said his wife, Theresa. Mr. Pevitts and his wife moved to Texas soon after his retirement, and he became an active member and elder with Trinity Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove, where they were residents for 13 years. They moved to Naperville two years ago and most recently were living in Wheaton. He loved fishing, especially deep-sea fishing in Texas, and was an avid bowler. “He kept active right up until the end,” said his wife. “He had his health for almost his whole life and that was a real blessing.” Other survivors include a son, William; a daughter, Pat Seimetz; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in Christ Church, 625 Hillside Ave., Glen Ellyn.
