Hail, hail, rock ‘n’ roll
John Kagwe still doesn’t know who Chuck Berry is.
No matter. Kagwe had a great time winning the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon in San Diego last year and he plans to tune in again Sunday to the bands playing along the 26.2-mile course.
Somewhere along the way last year, after he’d opened a huge lead, the Kenyan got an extra boost after hearing a band playing Berry’s classic “Johnny B. Goode.”
“I felt they were saying, `Go, go, John; go, go, John,'” Kagwe said. “And I said, `What? What?’ The guys knew my name!”
Friends in high places
Romanians rallied behind WBA lightweight champion Leonard Dorin before his title bout Friday with Raul Balbi, saying a victory by the Romanina-born Dorin, who now lives in Montreal, would be good for the whole country.
“Eat him alive, Doru’,” ran the front-page headline in Friday’s Sports Gazette, using a diminutive of Dorin’s surname.
While there was no biting during the fight, Dorin improved to 21-0 with a unanimous decision over Balbi.
Say what?
`They yell at me in French, so I’m not sure what they’re saying.’
