An Island Lake man is mentally unfit to stand trial for allegedly setting his former employer’s business on fire, Cook County Circuit Judge John Scotillo ruled Tuesday. Mark C. Drezek, 28, of the 4500 block of Vista Drive is charged with arson and burglary for allegedly setting fire to Rep Corp., 8N470 Tameling Ct., in unincorporated Bartlett, on Jan. 14. The fire caused about $750,000 in damage, said Acting Fire Chief Kevin Heine of the Bartlett Fire Protection District. A court-appointed psychiatrist determined that Drezek has bipolar disorder and is unable to assist in his defense. Drezek will be treated at the Elgin Mental Health Center for up to a year or until his condition improves. Lake County authorities also charged Drezek with arson in connection with a fire set at his former boss’ Long Grove home Jan. 15, according to reports. Drezek was also charged with residential burglary and criminal damage to property in connection with incidents at the home Jan. 1 and 13. In March a Lake County judge found Drezek unfit to stand trial on those charges. Scotillo will receive an update on Drezek’s mental condition Aug. 6.
