In anticipation of commercial development in South Barrington, village trustees updated the municipal liquor license ordinance and added a $750 application fee.

In the past, applicants had to pay a yearly $1,500 fee for the license. The new one-time fee will pay for criminal background checks.

“This is designed to cover the cost of the application and the cost of the necessary background checks,” Village Administrator David Pierce said. “Those background checks tend to cost between $125 and $150 apiece.”

The village has two establishments that serve alcohol: the Millrose Restaurant on Barrington Road and the South Barrington Club on Park District property near Village Hall. There are plans to open a steakhouse and microbrewery near the AMC Movie Theater Complex near Barrington Road and Interstate Highway 90.
