A part-time Lake Bluff firefighter accused of robbing a Gurnee bank and then getting away on a bicycle was arrested early Thursday at his home.

Henry C. Renken, 47, of the 400 block of Maclaren Lane, Lake Bluff, has been charged with a federal count of bank robbery, an FBI spokesman said.

Late Wednesday afternoon, a man walked into Northside Community Bank, 5103 Washington St., with a gun. The man pushed a customer face down onto the floor and loudly demanded money, police said. He fled on a bicycle.

Gurnee police arrived shortly afterward.

They used dogs to track the man to the Des Plaines River Trail, where they found a bicycle and a truck.

The license plates on the truck led police to Renken, investigators said. He was arrested at midnight.

Inside his house, police recovered what they described as the gun used in the robbery, as well as an undisclosed sum of cash.
