The Internet has become America’s playground–for dating, relating, navigating (insert your own rhyming word here). It’s changed the way we interact with others, and the way we look at ourselves. Take these findings from a recent study of online consumers conducted by AOL and RoperASW:
– 1 in 3 singles age 18 to 49 has asked or been asked out online.
– 78 percent give their e-mail address or both their e-mail and phone number when they meet someone.
– 26 percent look for their own name or someone they know in a search engine like Google–a popular practice becoming known as “vanity searching” or “ego searching.”
– 80 percent with online access at work have taken time out of their workday to do at least one personal activity online, like checking the news (62 percent), shopping (43 percent), vacation planning (42 percent), banking (33 percent), checking portfolios or trading stocks (31 percent), or arranging social events (26 percent).
