3. CHURCH POISONING CLUES: Investigators say they are convinced at least two people were behind the deadly arsenic poisonings at a small church in New Sweden, Maine, and they have narrowed the list of possible suspects.
Police said the conspirators may have been motivated by a disagreement over plans to merge Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church with neighboring congregations.
4. PATRIOT REACTION: The Justice Department had detained fewer than 50 people as material witnesses without charging them in the war in terror as of January and had gained 47 court-ordered delays in notifying people of search warrants, according to documents released Tuesday.
The details answer a request for information about use of the Patriot Act since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
