Justin Guarini
Justin Guarini
The longest 50-minute CD in history? If not, it’s close. The frizzy-haired runner-up from the first season of “American Idol”–which seems a lifetime ago now that everyone is more interested in singles by Clay and Ruben–has all the charisma of a curling iron on his debut album. The songs are bland and innocuous paint-by-numbers pop and generic R&B. Guarini’s voice is blander still. The covers of “Unchained Melody” and “Get Here” border on embarrassing. “Timeless,” the obligatory duet with movie co-star Kelly Clarkson, is oversung (by her) and forgettable. Hardly the stuff an idol is made of.
