I was impressed with the courage and cleverness that columnist Carol Marin showed in questioning the Bush policy on the war in Iraq (Commentary, July 23). She and Merle Haggard both proved that you can have doubts about the war and still be a patriot.

Something really bothers me though.

We celebrated the political assassinations of Saddam Hussein’s sons. I thought even war criminals deserved a fair trial.

How did the United States become judge, jury and executioner, no matter how heinous the crime?
