Last year’s Northwestern-Air Force game is remembered best for the Falcons offense in a 52-3 victory. But that day Air Force also unveiled a new defense that featured three down linemen and two strong safeties. It held the Wildcats to 12 first downs and 221 yards. “Quite frankly, we didn’t do a great job of preparation. [That defense] caught us by surprise,” admits Wildcats coach Randy Walker, whose team gets a rematch with the Falcons on Saturday at Ryan Field. “We fully anticipate the possibility of something [new] this year. . . . Adjusting is part of football and we were not well-equipped to do that a year ago. Call it youth. Call it poor coaching, I’ll take that blame. . . . This year, I think we’re better.”
