Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is ready to meet his Dominican Republic counterpart, Hipolito Mejia, to end a row that halted Venezuelan oil shipments to the Caribbean nation, a diplomat said Monday.
Venezuela suspended the oil deliveries last month, claiming that a former Venezuelan president and oil traders were plotting from Santo Domingo to overthrow, and even assassinate, Chavez.
“Efforts are being made for the two presidents to meet … very soon,” said Francisco Belisario, Venezuela’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic. “President [Chavez], as you know, is open to everything.”
