Next time you pass a cute guy on the street, don’t grab your new cellular phone to surreptitiously send your best friend his picture. Not if you’re in Hungary, anyway.
Hungary’s data protection ombudsman ruled Thursday that mobile telephone users who transmit pictures of people who are unaware of being photographed are liable to prosecution, and their cellular service providers could be too.
Regulators around the world are trying to come to grips with the spread of camera phones and their potential for invasion of privacy.
South Korea’s telecommunications minister recently decreed that all camera phones must emit a beep of at least 65 decibels when taking a photo, even when the phone was in silent mode.
