With great sadness I read the Nov. 24 obituary of Lisa Callahan Kay. Words cannot express my feeling of loss. I never met Lisa but had numerous telephone conversations with her since October 2001. I was viciously attacked on Oct. 2, 2001. I was very fortunate that Lisa, an assistant state’s attorney for Cook County, was assigned to this case.

Through her determination, I, as a victim, felt quite comforted that there was a person who would work with me until the bitter end.

She kept in touch, through pain and dealing with her cancer, but promising me that she would get this case finished. The day of the sentencing she was too ill to travel to the courthouse but still managed to go through telephone conferences and kept me informed about what was happening.

I am deeply touched by such a determination and grateful to her believing in this case and the sentence the offender got of 35 years in jail. We are always complaining about what people don’t do, but often forget to mention people like Lisa.
