Like flowers? Like Mayor Daley? Have $500 you’re dying to get rid of?
Friday is Mayor’s Preview Night for the 2004 Chicago Flower and Garden Show at Navy Pier. Tickets are $500.
“You walk around with a glass of wine or glass of champagne and look at these gardens privately, rather than with hordes of people,” said Martin Gapshis, president of the Chicago Urban Horticultural Foundation.
Preview Night tickets will benefit Gapshis’ non-profit foundation, which produces educational exhibitions and supports environmental initiatives in Chicago. Tickets to a party in the gardens later that night are $150.
For most of us, the annual flower show runs Saturday to March 21.
Organizers say this year’s show has attracted its top flower designers so far–British designer John Brookes, Ryan Gainey, and fashion icon and garden enthusiast Oscar de la Renta headline.
Descriptions of their displays include words like “whimsical,” “daring,” and “giant shoe.”
Tickets are $11 to $13, but then there are the hordes to contend with.
