Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber will get a raise and a contract extension–if the university’s Board of Trustees approves.

An agenda item for Thursday’s meeting asks the board to extend Weber’s contract one year–through the 2009 season–and increase his base salary by $50,000 to $200,000. Weber’s total annual pay, which includes fees for camps, radio, television and other public appearances, would increase to $550,000, according to the agenda document.

Sports information director Kent Brown said Weber and athletic director Ron Guenther had been discussing the extension since shortly after the Illini wrapped up a 29-6 season, which included the school’s first outright Big Ten title since 1952 and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament.

Weber signed a five-year contract when he was hired last May to replace Bill Self after five seasons at Southern Illinois.

Also, the Champaign News-Gazette reported Monday that former Illinois State forward Marcus Arnold would transfer to Illinois.

Arnold, a 6-foot-8-inch product of Morgan Park High School who spent two years with the Redbirds and averaged 12.3 points last season, won’t be eligible to play for the Illini until 2005-06.
