One-time Death Row inmate Rolando Cruz appeared in Traffic Court in the Criminal Courts Building on Wednesday after he was taken into custody this week by a police officer who recognized him and was aware he was wanted on a warrant.
A judge in Livingston County, Ill., had issued the warrant for Cruz in June when he failed to appear in court there to face sentencing on a DUI conviction. A Chicago police officer saw Cruz walking in the 4700 block of West Diversey Avenue and stopped him, authorities said.
Prosecutors said Cruz appeared on four warrants, the one from Livingston County and three locally for driving on a suspended license. A judge set his bail at $25,000.
