Peyton Manning (254 yards, 2 TD passes) and Edgerrin James (2 TDs, 124 yards) helped the Colts avoid losing two straight in the regular season for the first time since the middle of the 2002 season. The Colts outscored Tennessee 28-7 in the second half, forced two turnovers and sacked Steve McNair three times in winning their third straight game in this series.
Cincinnati 16, Miami 13
The Bengals couldn’t score a touchdown behind Carson Palmer. No need. The defense took care of that with a 50-yard interception return for a score. Shayne Graham’s 39-yard field goal salted away the win.
Seattle 10, Tampa Bay 6
Pin a rose on the Seahawks defense. Twice it forced Tampa Bay’s sputtering offense to settle for field goals on two drives that ended near the Seattle goal line.
Dallas 19, Cleveland 12
The Cowboys survive three interceptions thrown by Vinny Testaverde (322 yards passing) thanks to three interceptions thrown by the Browns Jeff Garcia (71 yards passing).
N.Y. Jets 34, San Diego 28
Happy news: Curtis Martin (119 yards) became the Jets’ all-time rushing leader (8,185 yards). Sad news: The fans booed the Chargers, who yanked Drew Brees for Doug Flutie.
Oakland 13, Buffalo 10
Bills QB Drew Bledsoe was sacked seven times. Ouch. Oakland’s Ronald Curry caught five passes for 89 yards and a TD. Nice.
New England 23, Arizona 12
That’s now 17 wins a row for the Patriots, who got 158 yards from Corey Dillon and two first-half TD passes from Tom Brady.
Detroit, 28, Houston 16
Break up the Lions. Joey Harrington threw three TDs, two to rookie Roy Williams. Did you know Williams once ran the 100-meter dash in 10.48 seconds. Unstoppable.
Atlanta 34, St. Louis 17
After the Rams rallied from a 14-0 deficit to tie the game at 17 in the third quarter, Michael Vick (109 yards rushing) and the Falcons outscored St. Louis 17-0 in the fourth.
N.Y. Giants 20, Washington 14
The Giants forced seven turnovers to hand Joe Gibbs his first loss in his second stint with Washington and Tom Coughlin’s first win with New York.
Jacksonville 7, Denver 6
Quentin Griffin fumbled on the 23-yard line with about a minute to play. Nothing more to see here. Move along.
Baltimore 30, Pittsburgh 13
Steelers fell into a 20-0 hole and lost QB Tommy Maddox to an elbow injury. Not to be outdone, Ravens celebrity DB Deion Sanders left with a hamstring injury and did not return.
Carolina 28, Kansas City 17
How soft is KC’s defense? Long answer: Panthers backup RB DeShaun Foster racked up 174 yards. Jake Delhomme threw three TDs. Short answer: Very soft.
New Orleans 30, San Francisco 27
Aaron Brooks rallied the Saints in the final two minutes and hit Donte’ Stallworth for a 16-yard TD. The 49ers outrushed the Saints 180 yards to 46 so, go figure
