The Elgin Symphony Orchestra has been named the 2004 orchestra of the year–the first three-time winner of an award presented annually by the Illinois Council of Orchestras.

The award will be presented formally Feb. 11 in a ceremony in Roosevelt University’s Ganz Hall.

The Elgin symphony also won the award in 1988 and 1999. It is the second largest orchestra in the state, with a steady increase in its subscription base.

“This is a big honor and demonstrates the respect for the ESO that is held by our industry,” said Louise Sullivan, orchestra president.
