A number of upgrades being planned for Evergreen High Park Community School’s aging building will be implemented this summer. Renovations are also in the works for the special education cooperative in Burbank that oversees High School District 231’s special education students.

The school board Tuesday approved the first two phases of school improvements for $305,000, as well as $90,611 for the revamping of the AERO (Argo, Evergreen, Reavis and Oak Lawn) special education cooperative at 7600 S. Mason St. in Burbank.

The first phase of the summer renovations at the high school at 9901 S. Kedzie Ave. will be replacement of water piping and retrofitting of new water fountains and faucets on the building’s first and second floor. The second phase will be replacing three sets of outside doors and two sets of inner doors with a card swipe system.

Fox and Fox Architects and Engineers of Chicago will do the work. It will be financed with the district’s life safety fund.

The AERO work includes a new heating and air-condition system, a new roof, replacement of lights and a ceiling, and asbestos removal.

The total cost is $1.3 million, which will be paid by the 12 districts that belong to the cooperative.
