This is regarding “Ukrainians renew hope in homeland; `Orange Revolution’ has some in Chicago plotting their return” (Metro, Feb. 21). The story noted the number of Ukrainians living in metropolitan Chicago. Please add one more name to your total, namely mine. As a Jewish-American, whose ancestors came to Illinois from many cities now found within Ukraine, I, too, am proud to call myself a Ukrainian-American and excited about the new birth of freedom that Ukraine has entered into thanks to the Orange Revolution.
It is no accident that President Viktor Yushchenko reached out to the Ukrainian Jewish community during and after the campaign that elected him. Ukrainian Jews in turn supported Yushchenko’s cause and the new hope it has brought to everyone in the republic.
