Temperatures have tumbled overnight with the arrival of the gusty NNE winds. Readings on the immediate Lake Michigan shoreline aren’t likely to rise much above 50(degrees) Thursday. More moderate low and mid 60(degrees) peak readings are likely to the city’s west, a noticeable reduction from Wednesday’s June-level near 80(degrees) highs. And, although cool easterly breezes will “blow in” at Wrigley Field Friday, limiting highs to the mid to upper 50s, Cubs fans are likely to enjoy a far nicer home opener than a year ago. While NE winds gusted to 30 m.p.h. and readings hovered in the upper 30s under cloudy skies much of the game last year, ENE winds are likely to blow at velocities one-third as strong this year. Though SE winds will continue to cool lakeshore areas Saturday and Sunday, the cloud-free, low-humidity environ-ment predicted will allow maximum heating, returning readings to the 70s over the second full weekend of April, 2005!
