With a name like Heather Green it seems fitting to be involved with the environment. Green’s dedication to preservation is getting her recognized in her hometown. The Lockport City Council recently not only gave Green a standing ovation but also an award for her volunteer service helping put together the city’s tree ordinance.

City Planner Steve Lazzara said Green, an arborist for Oak Lawn, went above and beyond what was expected by volunteering her time and services over several months.

Green’s work helps preserve older heritage trees in the city and will ensure that new ones are planted when older trees are knocked down to make way for development.

“It was an honor to be part of this,” she said.
