While all parents know that money doesn’t grow on trees, a Downers Grove man will walk 184 miles so kids will know that too.

Local author, radio host and debt counselor Dave “The Debtonator” Capra, will walk from Downers Grove to Springfield starting Monday. He will arrive near the state capitol Friday night and deliver 20,000 signatures to Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Oct. 15 in an effort to change high school curriculum so that it includes courses on debt management.

“I find it really appalling that credit-card companies are targeting kids in high school without the proper education,” Capra said.

Capra said one of the people who signed his petition said he had an 18-year-old grandson with $25,000 in credit-card debt. And that’s something Capra wants to end.

Capra can be heard on WJJG-AM 1530 on Thursdays at 1 p.m. For more information on the walk, call 630-742-7970.
