Sportswise, it doesn’t take much to divide North Siders and South Siders. Now there’s a prize at stake.

Two teams of 20 marathon runners from–you guessed it–the North and South sides will compete Sunday for $100,000 to fix up a local park. This is the second year Nike has staged the regional rivalry marathon, and the North Siders will defend their title.

“This North Side-South Side rivalry was so well received last year, we had to bring it back and make it even better,” said Andrea Fairchild, a Nike marketing director. Nike will award another $100,000 in products to youth groups on either side of town based on community votes.

To cast votes, fans can sign up for their side of town at www.nikerunning.com/RunCHI or vote at the Niketown Runner’s Lab on Michigan Avenue.
