A dozen students from Homewood-Flossmoor High School were taken to a hospital Thursday morning after the bus they were riding on their way to school was struck by a car, officials said.
The students and the bus driver were treated and released from Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest after the 7:04 a.m. accident on 183rd Street near Stewart Avenue in Homewood.
“We had some students who felt they had neck stiffness so we sent them to the hospital as a precaution,” said school spokesman David Thieman.
Some went home for the day, but others were back in class by the afternoon, he said. There were about 30 students on the bus.
The male driver of the 1994 Oldsmobile that rear-ended the bus was ticketed for failure to reduce speed and no vehicle registration.
