Royce Parran’s 37-point splurge led Chicago State to victory Sunday in a game the Cougars had talked about since last summer.
The 5-foot-9 junior from Lincoln Park High hit 11-of-17 shots, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range, as Chicago State (1-2) edged Illinois-Chicago (3-4) 75-74 at the Pavilion.
“We felt we deserved more respect,” Parran said. “We did a lot of jawing with the UIC players in games this summer. It’s a friendly rivalry, but we were serious about playing them and beating them.”
