I fail to understand why the Bush administration is so worried about the Patriot Act’s renewal. It is clear from its actions that it doesn’t need anyone’s permission to spy on Americans. I further do not understand why a Congress that impeached a president over a lie about sex allows this president to run amok. Checks and balances as fundamental tenets of American government are dead.
