A pedestrian was killed Wednesday morning when he was struck by a car trying to swerve around a truck at the intersection of Busse Road and Pratt Boulevard in Elk Grove Village, police said

The pedestrian, Juan Martinez, 35, of the 4800 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue, Chicago, was struck around 7:30 a.m. by a Mitsubishi Mirage that was southbound on Busse.

The car, driven by a Des Plaines woman, veered into a right-turn lane, went out of control and hit a pole before hitting Martinez, said Sgt. Mark Waclawski.

Martinez was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, police said. The woman was treated for minor injuries.

Charges are pending, police said.
